As an audit trainee, we work within various different teams and with lots of different clients, allowing us to meet a lot of new people. It is also great that the types of clients who we work with are from various different industries so the experience we get as trainees is very wide.
There are so many skills which I have developed during the course of my training contract. Studying for my ACA exams has developed my technical knowledge, but doing this alongside work has taught me how to manage my time efficiently. Also, working with new people on a regular basis has improved my communication skills and I now feel more confident.
I enjoy working within audit as the work which we do is varied and we have the opportunity to work with so many different types of clients (listed companies, charities, schools, housing associations, pension schemes etc.). Also there are so many other trainees at Crowe which makes the social aspect great!
The programme is well structured and organised. When we have exams, we are given study leave to attend college. During this time, we are not booked to any clients which helps us to focus on our studies. There are also set areas of audit testing which we are expected to do during each year of the training programme which helps to manage expectations and plan work.
There is an Early Careers Team who are always willing to help the trainees with any issues they may have. We are also assigned an appraisal manager who we can always turn to for support.
When studying for exams, the tutors are relatively helpful in supporting us. There is a Kaplan support system which is available to everyone (however, I have not yet used this). The Talent Coaches are helpful to guide you through the EPA.
The exams sat have provided us with a base level of technical knowledge about accounting and audit which can be applied to our jobs. Some of the exams are more relevant than others, depending on what area you work in. For example, as an audit trainee, I don't get to apply much technical knowledge about tax.
I am a member of the Crowe mixed netball team and have signed up to a few running events with Crowe.
Yes
The trainee network is really great and everyone here is so friendly. There will always be support available if its needed.
I would advise to just be yourself, demonstrate how you can work well within a team and that you are willing to learn new things.
