In my first year I did tax compliance which involves the preparation of corporation tax returns From my second year I have moved to tax advisory with a heavy focus on R&D I prepare reports for companies undertaking R&D claims for submission to HMRC We have meetings with the clients, then write up technical narratives for their projects and process the costs to include in the claim
Outside of my technical skills I have massively developed my communication skills through regular communication with clients and working with different teams and managers I have also developed my time management skills my managing multiple projects at a time that are all at various different stages of completion
I enjoy my work a lot I have the opportunity to be involved in different projects that interest me by communicating with mangers what I do and don't like
Very well structured There is a clear pathway for sitting exams and progression
Lots of support We get an appropriate number of study days and the managers are very supportive when going through stressful times
Mazars are great, but BPP are not the best The BPP tutors are good, but the central team do not communicate clearly and do not always answer your questions in a timely manner
I am doing the ACA-CTA Joint Pathway As I work solely in tax, I think the CTA qualification helps a lot, but ACA is not particularly relevant However, I do like doing ACA as it is an internationally recognised qualification that is good for my future career and is looked on favourably by employers
Lots of social activities and sporting events There are also professional networking events provided by NCASS that have a high turnout from Mazars
Yes
Good employer, lots of support, management are very nice and understanding Workload is enough to stay busy but I very rarely have to work overtime
Highlight as many transferrable skills as possible
