My role is a second year audit assistant. I complete fieldwork testing for areas such as expenditure, revenue, debtors, creditors, etc. I also sometimes assist with performing key business processes and walkthroughs with clients during the planning and interim stage of the audit.
Through performing KBPs and walkthroughs and other planning work, I have developed my understanding and knowledge of the audit process. My confidence has also grew in terms of communicating with clients and applying professional sceptism.
I enjoy the balance between work and exams, and being able to apply the knowledge learnt through the exams to everyday work life. I would like more of the exam material to be taught in person in college rather than teaching it yourself at home, as it can be difficult if you have questions and the timeframe to learn all the knowledge by yourself is not long enough.
The programme is well structured and organised in terms of ensuring time is given for college courses and exams. However, it would be useful to have time to be able to complete BPP and ICAEW apprenticeship and training files as I find this isn't kept up to date as well as it should be, due to lack of time to be able to do it due to other work commitments during the day.
My line manager is very good at ensuring that I am okay by having catch up calls with me every three weeks to check in. She will always make time for me if I have any queries or uncertainties and tries to help. However, booking study leave for exams can be difficult due to training courses which are put on around exam time and some managers can't spare you from jobs.
BPP are very good when in centre for college as they will answer any questions asked and take the time to sit with you to ensure you understand. If you have any questions after college, they are available to email.
The content from the exams enables me to have a better understanding of audit and accounting, therefore ensuring that I produce high quality and detailed work.
There are monthly social events held out of work hours and monthly lunches held in work hours. We also attend the NCASS events.
