Working in a varied role of corporation tax compliance work and advisory work. Compliance involves a range of elements including the preparation of the tax provision for inclusion in the accounts and the finalisation of the tax computation for submission to HMRC.
Project management skills - prioritising my own workload in an appropriate way, managing upwards to ensure work is progressed. Communication skills - regularly taking to clients about a range of tax issues. Tax technical skills - exposure to a variety of work and different tax issues, training session to get to grips with legislation.
The programme provides me with varied work that stretches and challenges me. This keeps the work interesting as there are constantly new areas to develop in and learn. Additionally, whilst the work and workload can at times be challenging a good level of support is offered making this manageable.
The programme follows a set training pathway which clearly sets out when exams will be taken and when different parts of an exam or assignment need to be completed to ensure that the pathway can be met.
Study leave is provided by Mazars to study and revise for the relevant professional exams. Training courses are regularly run to ensure the development of key skills, these include the development of interpersonal skills (such as communication with clients, management skills) and more specific tax technical skills.
Our training provider provides resources to study towards the relevant exams in the form of course notes and video recording for the learning. Revision courses for exams are held in person or online live with the benefit of having a tutor to ask questions. There are also online forums to help with an questions outside of the specified learning time.
The professional qualifications provide qualifications in accountancy and tax. This directly relates to the job role through having a better understanding of accounts and the audit process. The tax qualification is more directly related to the job role by providing an insight into relevant tax legislation.
There are office socials that are set up and run by the social committee. There are various team social that take place after team meetings.
