My role consists of learning about project management, on a day to day basis i do emails, presentations and PowerPoints as well as admin on different documentation and processes. I also consistently network with a variety of people within the business to continue to learn. I also sit in on a lot of meetings listening and contributing lots of ideas.
I have learnt a range of skills both with technology and with people. My confidence has developed significantly and i have learned how to communicate with variety of different people. I have also had the opportunity to develop my presentation skills.
I really enjoy the programme i am in as it has given me the opportunity to get a good sense of the work environment and develop my skills whilst still obtaining a degree in my chosen field. It has also provided me with lots of networking opportunities.
It is well structured with full time work and university once a week. Everything learnt at university is very relevant and is commonly used in my day to day working life. 12 week reviews also ensure that i am making consist progress and provide a place for check ins.
I receive phenomenal support from my line manager and my team whenever i need it as they are always there to help out and answer any questions i have, as well as pushing me to develop my skills and learn. When starting the apprenticeship i do feel that there could have been a little more guidance in how to complete reviews and give presentations properly in accordance with company guidelines.
My line manager offers me support with my university work and offers some very good ideas in order to help better my work and develop. As well as giving me the extra time to complete university work when needed. My team continuously offers to help me as they are very focused on the development of my professional skills. However when it comes to my reviews i feel i could be given a little bit more support on how to improve my work in order to exceed my goals.
All of the work in university is very relevant to work i do on a day to day basis and i have used those skills countless times throughout the last few months. Every module possess a range of different skills and techniques that are currently being used within the work place. For example how to use Microsoft project, stakeholder engagement & communication have had the most impact improving my abilities at work.
I have been to several social activities especially at the beginning of the apprenticeship which allowed me to make friends and build relationships with different colleagues. I have also been to STEM events where i have seen new technology and learnt how to use it so that i can help bring more people into the world of STEM.

Everyone at BAE Systems is extremely supportive and very helpful. The work environment is fantastic and has lots of opportunities for development and career growth. It is also a very interesting field to work in and is very different from most jobs. The project management apprenticeship has provided me with skills that i also take into my day to day life and will allow me to have jobs across many different areas, should i wish to.
When applying to BAE Systems i would advice to be yourself in your interview as, as important as skill and qualifications are, personality is a massive factor in working in a corporate environment with a variety of people. It is also important to be confident and tell them why you want to work for the company as well as asking any questions you may have.
