I started Nationwide in 2019 working in collections dealing with members who are in early arrears. The job role involved taking inbound calls from members in financial difficulty & my responsibility would be to assess affordability, explore their personal & financial situation and help them come up with a suitable solution to start addressing the arrears on their mortgage whilst sharing knowledge about and referring to different debt help agencies.
During the apprenticeship i learnt new skills such as : how to demonstrate my abilities during an interview, FCA regulations surrounding the financial/ debt collection sector and improved my customer service skills.
The programme was very enjoyable and gave me a good work/learning balance , the programme provided ample time to get each module completed to a high standard and provided a lot of support channels in case apprentices had any questions along the way.
After the initial 'settling in period' the programme was well structured with expectations being made very clear so we knew what was expected of us each step of the way.
Nationwide supported me every step of the way throughout the apprentice and went above and beyond to make sure i had all the recourses needed to complete the apprentice and my job role to the highest standard.
Support from the training provider included emails, teams calls & phone calls which was ideal and meant any queried i had were answered and resolved in a timely manner.
Gaining the certificate in debt collection and qualification in customer service has helped me massively in my job role. The insight i know have regarding regulations and the FCA has built up core knowledge needed to excel in my career.
We get 2 days per year paid leave to do volunteer work at our own chosen charities and there are a lot of charity events that are ran internally which employees have the chance to get involved in. We have social activities such as 'heads together days' where Nationwide will pay for the team to get together for a meal , the meal, accommodation and hotel (if necessary) are all paid for by Nationwide.
