On a daily basis, I work with a range of company data to provide analysis and produce outputs that the business can use.
I've learnt many skills from the workplace, both soft skills such as collaboration, as well as the technical skills required to complete my work tasks.
I enjoy the programme to the highest extent, it's definitely a lot better than going to uni full time as I get the experience from the work placements.
I know a couple of other programmes at BAE Systems that have a much more structured apprenticeship in terms of work placements, however I still know what to expect from my programme
We receive lots of support, we have managers to help with queries on the job, as well as a skills coach from the early careers team to answer any other queries. All the apprentices on my programme meet with the skills coach every so often to talk about progress and wellbeing.
Just like with my employer, we have a skills coach from our training provider that is our point of contact, and we meet with them every so often too to talk about progress in terms of our KSBs. I've given this a 9 though instead of 10 as I feel that I receive more support from my employer than training provider
I'm midway through my second year in my apprenticeship and haven't learnt much from my training provider. Most of what we currently learn is very broad and not very specific to my role. Most of my knowledge is gained from my work placements instead.
At my work we have STRETCH activities for apprentices and graduates. This includes voluntary extra tasks you can get involved in to gain a broader view of the company other than your specific role. One such example of this is working with a group of apprentices to deliver a project
Yes
The degree apprenticeship helps with learning about your role whilst gaining the experience at the same time. The work we do at BAE Systems is interesting and also important for supporting the Armed Forces.
Just take all the opportunities you get from the apprenticeship
