I help residents with day to day tasks when they have become unable to complete themselves. For example I help to wash them and dress them and sometimes feed them. I have to have a clear understanding of the individuals needs and wishes and always work in a person centered manner. I love my job:)
Yes I have learnt to sign for a deaf resident in my job, however paragon have helped me get a better understanding of my English skills and have provided me with workshops to improve my skills. I struggle with learning on the academic side of things however when it comes to care I am very knowledgeable.
Very much, however it would be nice if I had more access to contacting my tutor. I have had unforseen circumstances on 2 occasions stop me from attending my meetings with my tutor on these two occasions. This can be very difficult to contact her afterwards? It can get frustrating
Not very as I have tried to tell my tutor that I cannot access some of my work, or that I cannot download results etc, however I cannot contact my tutor to help me. I also have practical in house examination that hasn't been carried out. This then makes my work go in the red overdue section.
Not a lot, as I have to work and do not get a lot of time to study. This can be hard as I have two small children at home. The understanding was that I'd get set work hours to work on my NVQ level 2 in work as well as at home.
I get support when I can contact my trainer, however if I cannot then I have to wait until our monthly teams meetings.
Sometimes I learn something new from paragon and my training and it helps me perform my daily tasks with my residents better
Not really
Yes
Because I suppose there are people out there that are faster learners than me that will get a better opportunity to study.
It's hard work, so if you do not have a strong heart, then this is not the job for you. However the job is so rewarding.
