My role of a software engineer is to create and update code that we use on our systems and products.
I have been able to learn a lot more practical IT skills, like building servers and networks. I have also been able to learn lots of new software languages like Java, C++, C#.
I really enjoy my programme at BAE Systems, I always feel part of the team and they take pride in the work I do for them.
The work side of the apprienticeship is great, although the University sometimes makes me feel like a pilot for the programme
I receive lots of support for both pastoral and work focused problems I sometimes face. They are always checking in with me to ensure my experience and wellbeing is top.
We receive lots of support from our university based skills coaches and have 1:1s and tripartite meetings to ensure I am hitting my goals and not falling behind.
I feel like the skills I have been taught are put to good use at Work. The education side of my training is good for re-assuring or re-enforcing my skills learned in the work place. It gives me piece of mind to know I am doing something correctly.
We have lots of work and apprentice based events, including trips to different sites, trips to the lake district for team building, and also social events like Ski trips
Yes
I really enjoy being here, and I think everyone should try out this amazing opportunity as well.
Work hard in school to get good grades, maybe try doing some work experience with BAE or another engineering firm to get some soft skills, create a portfolio of work you do during free time and college.
