Mechanical Technician, daily task would involve me using software packages like autocad and revit to design mechanical services. On some projects I am able to go on site to take photographio evidence of what the site currently looks like.
After two years of college we get an academic qualification (level 3). The company also teaches us how to use software packages. During lunchtime we are given talks which enhances our knowledge.
Work is something you look foreword to after a weekend because the team make you feel as if you are unique and needed. It does meet my expectation and I do enjoy it.
I feel valued a lot by Arup because of the way my managers appreciate me and how they make me feel unique by giving me different tasks, especially different jobs.
The work based programme is very well structured but the college either needs to change or be more organised. I do like the support I receive if I am finding something difficult
I do get support with work but when it comes to the organisation, they are really bad. The whole structure needs to be rethink because it just does not make sense
Work based support is great, they assist me with every query I have. There are two mentors who were given to me and they help me with and technical problem I may have.
I currently receive £15000 and this is very less to put me through living costs, travel costs, daily costs, social costs. By the end of the month many of us are struggling.
Events are quite regular outside work and there is many opportunities to meet new people. Before I was working I was a full time student at university.
Yes
Arup is really different compared to other companies, the way people interact is just unique. Everyone would enjoy it. Another think is how flexible they are with regards to working hours.
Ask as many questions as you can during your interview in regards to any doubts you have or anything. Everyone should state any experience they have in anything.
