My current role as an engineering technician varies every three months due to my placement plan but I have completed time in the quality specialist role and the production specialist role. These specialist roles allow me to understand in detail how we produce and quality check all of our panels.
I have developed new process planning skills to effectively plan production taking into consideration different wastes that the company can eliminate. I've learnt how to understand conditions of panels and whether they are ok or not and I can identify all of the different defects that the panel can encounter.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship program, I have a great balance between work and my degree work. I enjoy working with experienced employees who pass on their knowledge and experience to me which is really interesting. I enjoy the variety of work I encounter on a daily basis and the challenges I face.
I think that the programme is structured very well and I think that the balance is very good for us apprentices to have enough time to complete our work before deadlines. Having one day a week at college allows me to shut off from my daily work and fully focus on college.
I receive plenty of support from my employer as they are very proactive in sending messages to see if we are all ok and if we need anything. I never hesitate to ask any questions and whenever I do have questions my employer answers them or finds an answer for them.
I receive support from my training provider but I don't think that they quite go out of their way to help me if I ask them a question they aren't sure about. I rarely have issues but if I do then I don't get the answers needed most of the time that they should know.
I think that it is definitely helpful to some extent as it gives me a head start to the workplace and I have most of the knowledge I need to complete daily tasks. Sometimes my manager in my placement expects me to know bits that we haven't fully dived into at college.
On a monday night a the apprentices in my year all play competitively in a 6 a-side football league which is really good fun and we all enjoy it. I take part in school event to promote the apprenticeship as well sometimes in out of work hours which is good to endorse young people to find an interest in the apprenticeship.
Yes
I would recommend the BMW apprenticeship to a friend because the benefits and opportunities are incredible as a young person at the beginning of their career. Even as an apprentice you understand that there is very good progression in the company and there is no limit to how far you can go.
When you apply for BMW Group Apprenticeships I believe that confidence is key and be proud of your achievements and chat about them. By being confident and taking pride in some of your work then they see that you have aspirations and you will be a good employee to work with.
