cleansing, analysing and reporting on data, liaising with key stakeholders on projects, discussing and collaborating with team members working on multiple different projects
data analysis, data cleansing, communication, leadership, coding and programming, time management, adaptability and flexibility
this is the best role I have had in my varied career, I am listened to at work and allowed to lead on large projects as a first year apprentice - my team trust me to do good work and are very supportive with the learning process
quite well, we were aware of the structure as we started, this has now slightly changed as the organisation has recently changed but the next steps should be clearer fairly soon, as apprentices are in different areas of the business we have varied experiences and knowledge at this stage
lots of support is given from line managers, apprentice skills coaches, as many people have been apprentices/studied whilst working at BAE there is a lot of knowledge and support, there are many placements in different areas so we will be very well rounded at the end of our course
we have quarterly tripartite meetings involving the apprentice, BAE line manager and skills coach and university skills coach where we can raise any concerns and discuss progress, any feedback given to the university regarding modules will only change for the following year of apprentices and won't affect the current students raising the issues, we are yet to see any actions/changes made to modules as a result of earlier students raising their concerns though.
I learn more through the job itself at this stage which can be quite frustrating as the topics seem to be fairly unrelated to work in some modules, however I am hoping that this will change during future years of the course. If our roles at work weren't dependent on this degree, some apprentices have said that they wouldn't complete the degree and would just prefer to solely learn on the job instead.
there are many professional networking events - I am actually attending one next week in Derby, there are plenty of ways to help out during guided tours and helping out at open days/induction weeks for new starters, the company has a very friendly and inclusive atmosphere, individual teams socialise together, the offices are very social too - you can approach anyone for a catch up or a chat about work.
Yes
very inclusive environment, everyone around you wants you to do well, try new things and will help push you to develop without fear of failing, it is the most positive company I have worked in, allowing flexibility with working hours, massive support networks and friendly higher ups help to remove the hierarchical feel that similar large companies may have.
work away the the application little and often - it can be a long process getting into the company but it is completely worth it, be open-minded about opportunities - after being in the business for less than 6 months I had already lost track on all the projects I had been involved with which was completely different to what I had initially expected being a brand new apprentice within the business, and be open to potentially relocating for your role, we are based all over the country so there are many opportunities to move about within the business and get different experiences working on many different projects
