As an apprentice, I follow through different placements each in different areas of engineering, such as environmental or mechanical, and learning specialised skills like stress testing or using CAD.
Countless skills learned from starting the apprenticeship. From coming into the company with a very vague idea of engineering, I feel competent in all tasks I complete, such as setting up testing, writing test instructions, design and assembly in CAD, calibration of tools, just to name a few.
Very much enjoy it. Work is rewarding, kept interesting and fun as the people I am surrounded by are extremely helpful. I have responsibility in my job role, and every task carried out has a purpose. I believe this is the best way to learn and I can see how much it has benefitted myself. University release is also good, one day a week is fair to learn the content part time and it is interesting also.
I feel it is well structured. The placement rotation plan is incredible and allows myself to see every part of the engineering side of the business. There are no boring days and I am never left without work to complete. Even if university work becomes overwhelming, I have opportunity to use extra time to complete this, so I can divert my focus back to work.
A lot of support. Never struggle as I know there are people I can turn to.
Plenty. As mentioned before if there is difficulty with university work, the workplace allocates time to work on it more.
Some parts don't apply to my day to day work, but other modules are seen in work and make me feel glad they are being taught.
Plenty, teams have away days and times out to enjoy, and there are sports teams for almost any sport. The corporate social media advertises this and they are easy to join if you would like.
Yes
Great care taken of me, proper training given, good pay, feel like you are contributing to a team.
Learn the company values to discuss in your interview, get a good idea of the work MBDA do, and understand that it is not easy as you will be working from day one, will have to study at uni and compared to full time uni, it takes a lot of free time away but is worth it due to the sheer experience and pay you recieve.
