  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Typically, my role involves dealing with matters relating to our members - data protection, corporate governance, property, mortgages and savings. Similarly, my role involves marking up and reviewing commercial contracts. Sometimes, I lead client meetings and take on instructions. I regularly provide legal advice to clients, which may be verbal or written.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills, such as: communicating with colleagues and clients in writing and verbally, providing legal advice, drafting documents, time management, prioritising tasks and legal research. I have developed my confidence and public speaking as I am not scared to ask questions if I am unsure on a task and I have attended careers fairs and an assembly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think it is a great opportunity to gain six years of legal experience in practice alongside doing my studies at University where I will gain a degree. It is really beneficial applying my studies into practice. I have great support from my team and the Early Talent Cohort is a great network of young people who are at similar stages in their career.

  • My manager is extremely supportive towards both my work and my studies at University. There has been occasions where I have faced challenges with my studies and my manager has been really understanding of this. To provide me with extra support, the team have an extra office day. • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My two semesters at Northumbria University has been enjoyable, most of my lecturers have been great and I have regular progress reviews with my work place coach. However, I have faced challenges regarding keeping up with a heavy workload. For one module particularly, it has been disorganised where preparation content was not posted on time however the University did resolve these issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification I am working towards has been extremely beneficial as I have learnt about contract law which is relevant for my role as I am able to understand the theory behind the work I complete for the contracts team. I have also learnt skills such as researching, which involves the process of finding reliable sources and essay writing which helps when I need to write written documents at work.
