  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Designing valves based off of customer orders using CAD software and creating relevant documentation to ensure the valve is made properly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my existing knowledge of CAD programs and gained much new knowledge of how to design products from the ground up and how to ensure that the product is properly designed to comply with both customer specifications and government regulations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is somewhat enjoyable, I learn a new skill or develop an existing one every day and there is always a new problem or task to overcome and learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is quite well structured, with there being a full plan regarding my progression through my level three training into a HNC and then into a degree. I am aware of the time that each section will take and what is expected of me in each section.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive as much support as I need from my employer, if there is any training work I need to do they will give me time to do it and will provide any guidance or information that I may need to help with assignment tasks or other work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I also receive as much support as I need from my training provider in gaining my qualifications, they will provide as much help is allowed with assignment tasks and give plenty of time to work on these tasks on my day release to their training centre.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me a lot to perform better in my role, I have done a CAD focused unit in my training so this improved my skills with CAD software even more than at my work, I have also learned some of the key math based principles that I have to consider in my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are regular social activities that are planned by the sports/social team and are advertised to anyone in the company such as dinners and formal parties. There is also a sports team which you can get involved in if you want to.

  • Yes

  • Because they are a good company and will give you good employment with lots of benefits and will ensure your needs are catered for.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BEL Valves?
  • Having previous engineering sector qualifications or having a passion for engineering is something they look for as they want someone with a commitment and passion for the sector.
