I work for a multinational software corporation that develops enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. My company is a leading enterprise resource planning software vendor with over 100,000 employees worldwide. I work in a programme within our solution portfolio area, supporting teams and projects as a functional lead. My team is responsible for the go-to-market strategy for our portfolio, ensuring scalability and managing online platforms for customer readiness. This involves handling business-as-usual activities and managing ongoing innovation projects.
Both. I undertook this apprenticeship because, despite my previous involvement in projects, I lacked formal training to validate my expertise. I also wanted to learn best practices and familiarize myself with the tools and skills used by project managers to make well-informed decisions. Now, I feel more confident in my project knowledge, and can manage expectations better. Additionally, shadowing colleagues at work gave me a new perspective on the project management role. Overall, the apprenticeship had a very positive impact on my learning and development.
I was very impressed with the comprehensive and high-quality content of the apprenticeship program, which thoroughly covers all aspects of project management, including crucial skills like people management and leadership. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone to seek valuable shadowing opportunities, providing me with exposure within my organization. The learning materials and events provided by the training provider were exceptional. They also offered flexibility with recorded content. The coaching sessions were beneficial in making the content easier to understand, and the interactive dynamic of the trainings allowed for valuable networking opportunities within my organization.
The program was effectively organized with a monthly module structure, including group teaching sessions, a designated coach for development, personalized coaching, progress reviews, practical assignments, and relevant content tailored to on-the-job daily tasks. The programme also offered exclusive access to events, programs, perks, and networks through the training provider Community Hub.
My employer was very flexible with working hours, ensuring I had the time I needed to focus on the apprenticeship. My direct line manager supported my pursuit of additional learning opportunities, monitored my progress, and provided regular constructive feedback to help me improve. She also aided me in preparing for the end point assessment, provided ongoing support and encouragement throughout my apprenticeship journey.
My training provider provided support throughout my apprenticeship qualifications by offering group teaching sessions, one-on-one coaching, progress reviews, assistance with assessment preparation, and ensuring I booked relevant assessments on time. They also supported me in ongoing preparation for assessments, setting clear deadlines and providing feedback for improvement. Additionally, they checked on the progress of my portfolio topics to ensure completion by the due date and to a high standard. They were flexible in scheduling sessions and follow-ups to accommodate my needs.
Receiving formal training can improve your skills as a project manager and provide you with the confidence and capabilities necessary to effectively manage more complex projects. It can also enhance your professional opportunities by positioning you as a more qualified and capable individual able to delivery successful project results.
SAP integrate social activities into its corporate culture and employee engagement efforts. These activities could encompass events, team building exercises, community service, and wellness programs for employees. Currently, I am involved in the SAP Social Language Club, where I am learning German. Additionally, I recently participated in an herb planting workshop, where I gained insight into the advantages of gardening and learned how growing my own herbs can promote a sustainable lifestyle.
