I am in a engineering technician role that requires me to change section every 6 weeks. when starting work we complete the DSUM board and attendance. we also check that we are wearing the correct safety shoes and that our LEVS are working correctly within the electronics room.
yes i have learnt new skills, such as how to layup and cure carbon fibre, how to use filogauges within the fitting workshop and how to solder and test circuits correctly within the electronics room.
i enjoy my apprenticeship and I find it very informative with learning new skills. However, I do find it is very fast paced due to all the different modules that need to be learnt which can be rather tiring and exhaustive.
it is well organised and has a good structure in terms of what practise and assessment jobs need completing. however, due to staff and skills coaches leaving it has put lowered the quality of how quickly we can do assessment and practise jobs but despite this we still finish on time which is good so it does not add to more stress or pressure on completing deadlines.
i feel we are very well supported from our managers, skills coaches and college tutors. this is due to them being able to accommodate and helping in reducing our stress or anxiety with college assignments and knowledge questions by providing us with more structured classes which help to ensure that we can answer the different tasks on the assignments.
I receive good support from our college tutors via canvas and the support links on the assignments. Also, the classes are a lot more structured to allow us to understand and we able to extend our due dates for reasonable circumstances. furthermore, we are able to ask for additional help with the assignments if we are struggling and the tutor will go through previous examples related to that question along with multiple different resources on canvas to access from.
I feel that my qualification does slightly help me perform better in my role such as material applications helps to understand the science and characteristics of how different materials that we use in the workshop such as carbon fibre have an effect on aeroplanes and how the curing processes chemically work.
There are social events that you can ask to take part in such as the warton tour which perhaps may help in networking and there are opening events to take part in to help support work and to build more connections.
Yes
i would recommend BAE to a friend due to the supportive and acknowledgment of mental health along with the diverse and different work activites to take place such as carbon fibre, heat treatment and elctronics to learn from which will help to lead to a bright future career at BAE systems.
my advice to someone applying at BAE would be to trust the process! also be patient and revise the company ambitions and aspirations for the future which will help you to hit the criteria during the multiple interview processes. Furthermore, keep in contact with security watchdog and keep sending them the required documents as soon as possible to help reduce the waiting times on achieving your security clearance.
