Work mainly consists of working from home, using software such as P6 and excel to filter and transfer data into organised sheets for my line manager to refer to. Taking part in stretch assignments. Speaking to fellow apprentices/senior managers/my skills coach to maintain communication.
Yes, I have learnt many new skills due to completing the courses assigned to me on my training plan. These include my skills with software such as P6 and excel. I also felt I have developed existing skills such as my leadership and communication as I have been made to leave my comfort zone in a good way.
I enjoy my programme quite thoroughly, I want to develop and I feel like I can achieve a lot with this apprenticeship. BAE's environment is a friendly one and it's easy to see they want to invest in their apprentices which makes the whole experience a lot more enjoyable for me.
This is the first L4 APM apprenticeship BAE has hosted so the structure has been quite confusing until recently where our skills coach spoke to us all and took us through step by step of what we were meant to be doing. I now understand the courses I am meant to be participating in and what I am meant to be doing weekly to complete my apprenticeship
I receive a lot of support from my employer. There are senior managers, my line managers, and my skills coach. It has been made very clear to me that at any point I can speak to any of these people and they will help me to the best of their ability.
Our training as L4's is all done throughout BAE systems as the company with little external training. I have a training plan with course codes which I can then use on a site on the intranet called SuccessFactors to apply for the courses I need to attend. So far I am up to date on my training.
I have developed a deeper understanding of the characteristics a project manager must have to perform their role to a high standard through my training courses. I have also learnt about scope and stakeholder management which are crucial to project management. Alongside this I have had extensive training courses on P6 which allows me to navigate the tool easier to assist me in my day to day work.
Every week on a Tuesday morning there is a social meetup between apprentices at my work. There are also lot of meetups outside of work for the whole of ICS. There are also professional networking events one of which I will be attending in the near future.
Yes
Welcoming environment, the company cares about you as an individual and wants to help you personally develop. Everyone I have met is friendly and overall it is just and enjoyable place to work.
Research the company before you join to see what attributes they look for in a person. Develop yourself to give BAE a reason to want to hire you.
