My job title is a trainee accounting technician. On a daily basis I work as part of the Audit team, so travel to various client sites to complete audit fieldwork, which involves completing testing on information which is produced by the client.
Whilst on this apprenticeship, I have learnt a lot about accountancy. Mazars are paying for me to complete my AAT and then move onto my ACA. I have also been given the opportunity to get stuck into the work I do on a regular basis with support and guidance from my colleagues. The main skill that I have developed by having this opportunity is my confidence.
I really enjoy the variety of work in which I am given. I work on various different types of clients which enables me to gain knowledge of the working world and what I would like to specialise in. The best part of my role is being able to work with various people in different teams, by working in different teams it gives me variation and enables me to learn from different peoples strengths.
I believe that Mazars is going the right way in order to try and make their employees feel valued. We do have review processes which enable managers and senior members of staff to give feedback on jobs I have completed which enables me to know what I have done well. We also have a recognition scheme which seems to be working well to identify talented individuals.
I believe that my structure is well organised and believe that I was introduced to the firm well. I also have someone at similar level to me so we go to college together and can study together. I also believe that the structure of my course is well set out with me being able to become full qualified in just 4 years.
Kaplan is our training provider and they have always given me all the information and support I have needed. The tutors are very helpful and easy to talk to about any problems or queries.
I have been given a buddy which I use for any questions about my role or my qualifications that I am gaining. I also have an appraisal manager which I am able to speak to about any problems that I have in the work place.
My salary is fine for me as I live at home and only pay a small amount of rent. I still have a lot of disposable income so I am happy that my salary exceeds my costs.
The company has various social events outside of work. The events that have happened recently are the London Marathon, the MK marathon and the clean up for MK hospital. There is also a sports day coming up soon to try and encourage a team spirit within the office.
Yes
The company offers a great place to work, with people who enjoy finance and want to gain accountancy qualifications. I have got some of my friends jobs with Mazars and they like it just as much as I do.
I would just give the advice that you should just be yourself, learn about Mazars and know the role you are applying for . The assessment day isn't as scary as it seems, so I would recommend that you try to stay calm and complete the tasks to the best of your ability.
