  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Payroll Administrator, my day-to-day tasks involve the following: calculating and keying final disbursement payments for employees leaving the business, running reports and ensuring that new starters have their bank details uploaded on the system, chasing managers to convert new direct reports to employees on PeopleCloud before finalisation, answering any employee pay queries, and also supporting members of my team with any double checking of their work to ensure it is accurate.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot while working as an apprentice at Nationwide. I have been able to develop my organisation skills through learning to consistently write notes and to-do lists. I have also developed my communication skills immensely throughout the programme, I am now more confident to share my ideas within a team and voice my opinion when I have an opposing idea. Lastly, I have also developed my logical thinking skills and have more confidence to approach any issue and try to resolve it.

Being able to work and learn has been a great introduction into the working world and I'm very grateful for this opportunity.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is quite well organised overall. The communication can sometimes not be very good, it seemed this way a lot at the beginning as there was some confusion regarding which course we were actually doing. Also, it was quite difficult to find out what was going to happen at the end of our apprenticeship, for a long time I was chasing this and was never actually told directly. Otherwise it is quite well structured.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a decent amount of support my training provider. If I have any questions, I know who to email and they tend to get back to me in a decent amount of time. However, if the question is urgent sometimes this is not answered straight away and I have to contact other members of my apprenticeship to see what they think.
