Customer representative role in a dynamic branch based environment, exploring customer needs resolving queries and promoting financial health through a digital first based approach. Studying the banking industry to provide a deeper understanding of how banks support people to achieve their financial goals and the importance of banks in society.
Learnt 'how to learn' from each experience and interaction, employing the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to tell a story about how each customers query was resolved through excellent customer service. Learned about the credit cycle and completed an exam to become a member of the Chartered Bankers Institute (CBI).
Having the opportunity to augment the understanding of my role was vital in launching my career in financial services. I enjoyed the learning programme which was sufficiently challenging to test my understanding of banking in the digital age, banking products, lending, risks, the legal and regulatory envirnment and professionalism and ethics.
Was very confident in the delivery structure of the programme which was well organised, working methodically through the Professional Bankers Certificate at the CBI alongside personal development activities that influenced the final portfolio submission at the end of the course. When I needed help with workload, my tutor was amazing at rescheduling my tasks and giving me more time to work on the activities.
My manager was brilliant in giving me time to work on my studies during working hours, where the needs of a busy branch allowed. When I requested insights, advice and observations, she was always present. I would say the course is very independently 'led, which I dn't mind.
The supportfrom my learning tutor at Babington, was second to none. I could not have had better support, offering to help me reorganise and extend my scheduled due dates when I was struggling keeping up with workload. She gave great advice, really friendly and easy to get on with.
Without the qualification, I would not have accelerated my understanding of my current role and industry anywhere near as quickly as I have. I and my peers now regard me as a senior member of staff and the opportunity has opened several doors for future roles too.
The bank branch team is really closely knit and we regularly meet up outside of work for social events. The LBG prides itself in offerring 'a day to make a difference' where you can get paid to take part in a social impact event of your choosing. I got involved with a tree planting day as environmental sustainability is a key passion of mine.
Yes
The LBG has amazing life benefits, I feel rewarded for pursuing personal growth in a proffession, the opportunities are numerous to explore different areas of finances and I've just been accepted on a new apprenticeship with LBG in data. I feel heard by my manager and team and comfortable in presenting my authentic self in helping people.
Be honest about your abilities and recognise how your personal ethics align with the LBG's values (Putting People-first, Being Bold, Valuing Inclusivity, Championing Sustainability and Trusting eachother). Never cut corners, be open and learn from your mistakes, take ownership of issues and follow your passions, there is much more to the LBG than just being a bank teller!
