  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am able to get involved in a range of amazing workplace activities and projects within my workplace. Personally, I am in office almost everyday due to the nature of my testing department, but i love every moment of and enjoy the positive working environment i get to work in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop a range of skills during my time as an apprentice, particularly i have greatly been able to develop my confidence in my communication and presentation skills and i have learnt a lot about how problem solving and organisation plays an essential part in work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme, it is not without it's faults and challenges, but i am so grateful i have this opportunity as i get to work in an amazing, friendly and supportive team, and i have been able to get involved in a range of exciting and engaging activities

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My personal experience is that it has been well structured, allowing me to get involved in a range of activities and placement opportunities, while also ensuring i receive the support i need to succeed. I will say this doesn't seem to be the case for every apprentice, but overall my experience has been nothing but positive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have a wide support network ranging from managers, mentor and general support from within our teams, wider departmental support from a dedicated team for my overall department, and support from a dedicated Early careers support team. I have always felt that if i needed to there was someone i could talk to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is support available from the university, specifically we have course leaders, apprenticeship tutors and then additional module support available from our module tutors. However the support from our tutors can be varying depending on which lecturer it is, some lecturers are not as useful at answering questions. Overall though there is still good support available.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Personally i have not found my qualification is directly helping me in my role as it is a very specialised department i work in where it is more about training to do the job than using external knowledge to do the job. I can definitely see how the content we learn is very relevant to engineering as a whole though and it is interesting content to known.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we have the opportunity to get involved in a range of extra-curricular activities through work, for example there is an early careers community run by apprentices and graduates that organise fun social events for everyone to attend. It can be hard to balance these events with the intense workload we have but it is possible and the events are there if you want.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is such an amazing company and i have felt nothing but welcomed and inspired since i joined. My department is so friendly and have been so supportive in providing me with the resources and time i need to balance my time and i always feel like a part of the team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • I always have two main pieces of advice when applying - first ensure you do as much research before applying and during the application process, this can help you feel more confident during interview and show your interest and passion for the company. As well as this it is essential that you are just yourselves, they are not after one specific person, they want to know what YOU specifically can bring to the table.
