Working on projects as part of a team, interacting with stakeholders both internally and externally to the project. Responsibilities include communicating with stakeholders (e.g. safety/joiners/electricians) to enable the project through Email/skype/in person and collating data to give an overview of project performance.
I've learnt many new skills, mainly how to communicate in the business environment and to keep pushing in order to get tasks done. I've also learnt how to use software such as Excel, SAP, Teamcenter.
I enjoy activity's and work that i can do away from my desk and when working in a team as these are most engaging. University days once a week and are usually engaging and enjoyable as everyone is there to learn. WFH and flexi hours are a great perk as well
The university uses Canvas, an online learning tool that enables very effective communication of university study day activates, reading lists for modules linked to the uni library, assessment information, additional resources for learning and a Q&A page where students can ask tutors for advice. The programme is 5 years with placements of 6/12 months giving a steep learning curve and keeping me engaged.
Lots of support is given, apprentices have a line manager for day-to-day, a skills coach who oversees reviews and picks placements to enable targeted learning along with a development leader. This ensures you finish the qualification with a wide range of skills and experience. Uni also offers support for exams and lessons (ADHD help etc.).
Very good support from the university through Canvas online tool. Gives lots of information on upcoming and past uni days (power-points, activity's) reading lists linked to the uni online library, and also detailed briefs on the upcoming assessments.
Allows me to build a base of knowledge and understanding of project management that i can then use to build my skills at work.
Yes, as an apprentice we must complete several off-the-job-hours a week that benefit our learning, for example helping at sports events at local schools, networking events and taking part in community projects. The team you work in and the university cohort also have socials, e.g. getting a lunch from a takeaway, going to the pub.
Yes
Pleasant place to work with lots of different areas/disciplines to work in and people to meet. Lots of opportunity to go far, travel, learn.
Ask questions, be yourself and learn from mistakes
