  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within the apprenticeship involves learning all aspects of design within the build of submarines. I am currently on placements, which allow me to understand process, standards, BIM, as well as learning my trade from qualified personnel. The skills and knowledge I am gaining is exceptional.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I now understand the processes of submarine design. I am competent in using the modelling software and capable of creating drawing sheets to suit the customers requirements and align with the relevant engineering standards.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have found the program to be informative, providing me with all the information I could require to do my job well. Due to this well structured process of delivery, it has lead me to really enjoy my apprenticeship on a daily basis and I am excited about each phase.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is being delivered and structured exceptionally well. It provides all the information I need to fully understand the business and my job role. This has allowed me to understand what I need to achieve to fulfil the requirements of the apprenticeship and to reach my full potential.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support is offered throughout the placements. If more support is required there are various avenues that can be taken to receive it. Everything is catered towards helping you understand, learn and succeed. I have always felt supported throughout each placement and happy to ask for help if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The skills coaches at BAE are assigned to us to help monitor our progress throughout the apprenticeship. They speak to us about structuring our EPA and help inform us of what content we should be aiming to add as our EPA examples. There is guidance throughout the process.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It makes sure that every area of my role is understand. It makes sure that a large variety of learning is understood and there is a clear path to what that requires, through our skill scans and behaviour matrix.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The business is keen on supporting extra curricular activities. There are always many stretch activities that can be participated in and we are encouraged to do so. This allows us to further enhance or confidence in the workplace, network and work on our BAE behaviours.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There are endless opportunities to find the right job that suits every individual. If my apprenticeship is anything to go by then they will thrive throughout the learning process. I feel very lucky to be working in a company that is inclusive to all and Im excited about my future.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Embrace every opportunity and don't hold back. Allow yourself to enjoy every experience.
