  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Programming measurement equipment to collect data for specific topics and vehicle build phases. Using the data to analyse and feedback to internal customers and other departments for their own analysis and topics. Using various software for programming and data analysis to capture the panel gaps and flushness across the whole vehicle.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about time management, working with other people, presenting and sharing information and how to develop my investigation using the tools and people around me. I have also become more confident at asking for help and support when I need it which I can apply to out of work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my experience working with and meeting new people. I have applied my skills between work and college as well as in my personal life. There is constant opportunity to improve and expand my knowledge under the business with training courses and the knowledge of my work colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There has been times of uncertainty between transition of different academic years and changing courses. However, once the information has been communicated, the structure is clear and has been mostly easy to follow. I would like to see the timetables and course expectations clearly communicated prior to starting the year.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I don't often seek support from my employer, but when I do, there is always someone to answer my question. There is always support for my day-to-day work and my college studies and any chance to learn and develop my skills - this is a massive part of the support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My course leader is contactable and checks in most weeks to make sure everyone on the course is happy with what they need to do and understands the requirements. During my previous year, the criteria was not made obvious to us and what was needed to achieve each grade. This made it difficult to know the standard expected of our work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With having such a specific job role within my department. A lot of the work I do does not apply to my course. However, the information I do get from my course about engineering in general, can be applied to my work and my understanding of the business as a whole.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Social activities are occasionally organised by my department and I am always welcomed by other departments to their social activities while on placement with them. I also play football one a week on an evening with colleagues from around the business as a friendly kick around at the college facilities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a company that looks after its employees very well and there are many different benefits such as discounts, company cars and healthcare. There is opportunity to progress through the company to gain responsibility and learn more skills. There is also opportunity to change job roles internally or even move to another plant.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I think to be successful to the business. You have to show why you are different to everyone else; make yourself stand out. Show that you are willing to learn and become better, most employers will look for that when looking for an apprentice. Have basic knowledge about the company to show some level of interest.
