  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day includes meetings to discuss current problems in our landscape, problem solving work that focuses on the problems in the landscape, Occasional use of CAD when part designs need to be changed and also 3D printing to develop ideas and prototypes for part development

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My CAD skills have massively improved since joining and my experience of using 3D printers has also been boosted. I have also learnt about strategies such DMAIC and Ishikawa for problem solving which is all new to me. Communication has also improved as i am required to speak with lots of people day to day

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far i have really enjoyed my apprenticeship, i have met loads of new people and friends, been able to experience loads of cool opportunities through the business such as day trips and placements and look forward to what is to come in future

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship has been well organised this year, i have been put on a 3 year placement plan where i get to experience lots of other departments around the business, this includes going abroad to munich for 3 months i have recently also finished a 4.5 month placement in the quality department

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive, we have apprentice managers who we are able to talk with if we have any issues etc and my line manager is also very helpful if ever i require anything. i also have a mentor who i can go to for guidance

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university is very poor, there is a lack of past papers, some of the lecturers are very inexperienced and lack the knowledge to teach their own modules, support with doing our labs is minimal and some of the lecturers weren't even capable of using the testing equipment

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Personally i don't find there is much similarity between my degree and what i do in work, i would have been interested in doing more CAD and FEA work as this would have been beneficial to me, as well as some more automotive based experience

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are loads of activities to get involved in such as team socials, apprentice socials, charity events etc

  • Yes

  • Great company to work for, lots of opportunities to get involved in, and part of the wider bmw group so more job opportunities


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Present any extra curricular work you have completed such as school projects and also have enthusiasm when applying, learn about the brand, watch documentaries and do your research
