My role as an audit associate involves planning and assessing risks within an organisation, designing procedures to assess these risks, and carrying out procedures to essentially verify the accuracy of financial information disclosed to the public.
I have learnt the importance of organisation as it is a vital skill needed to efficiently carry out an audit from start to finish. I have also developed communication skills by talking to both internal (colleagues) and external (clients) of all levels, on a daily basis.
I think that the programme is beneficial to my development in the business and accounting world and has given me exposure to the way in which a business functions. Some of the work performed can feel monotonous at times, however has the same level of importance.
The programme is very well organised/structured. We sit exams in clear periods and it is at a good pace which gives us time to develop in the workplace as well as learn the material.
I receive sufficient support from my employer, there are internal resources available when excess support is needed which I have not felt the need to rely on.
We have quarterly catch ups with our training provider. They provide tutors for each course/exam who you can contact at any time with queries and will provide timely responses.
The exams we sit are mostly relevant to our course, accounting is a very large umbrella term so as an audit associate, tax exams are not as beneficial but interesting nonetheless.
The firm holds many department wide and team socials throughout the year, there are sports and networking events.
Yes
The firm is very people oriented and ensures that people are developing and progressing at a good rate.
Ensure you are committed as it is a demanding job, however there is a good work life balance especially in comparison to other firms.
