Varies day to day: sometimes I have practical work to do and some days I answer knowledge questions and complete work reports. My apprenticeship consists of a mix of electrical work and mechanical work, and I have been taught a variety of modules like mechanical, electrical and bench fitting.
I learned a lot in the bench fitting module, for example how to meet expectations in the form of tolerances. I was also taught a lot about the combustion cycle and the basics of how an engine works, as well as how basic electrical components work and how to solder.
I enjoy my programme a lot, as I have helpful and knowledgeable skills coaches who are always willing to help when its needed.
My programme has been well structured and very well planned out, and my course is now due to have all work completed early.
I have received lots of support since I started, especially at the start of the apprenticeship when I was struggling the most with the move to another place for work.
When working towards my qualifications, I receive support whenever I need it. If I ask for help my skills coaches have always assisted me in the best way possible, and where they can they will ask me questions to try to prompt me to answer my own question.
My qualification helps me in my role as it has taught me what I needed to know about my tasks. This includes ensuring that I am using PPE correctly and fully, and also helps me to be aware and capable of problem solving when issues arise.
Some of the extra curricular activities we have the option for at work include field gun, football and interviewing. We have the option to sign up to take part in several different activities which can help with teambuilding and trust in the workplace.
Yes
BAE Systems has offered lots of support with my work and mental health and offers a range of different support measures. I feel that I am paid well for my apprenticeship and the skills coaches are all helpful and friendly.
Try your best and push yourself! If you don't know something ask a skills coach as they can help guide you through a job by using the extent of your own knowledge.
