I work in the Material and Process analysis team, investigating quality issues and using a combination of chemistry and metallurgy-based techniques to help monitor and solve these problems.
This role has taught me a variety of skills, mostly involving my social and team-based skills. It has also improved my independence and organisational skills.
I have immensely enjoyed the programme. Combining a Manufacturing Engineering degree with a laboratory environment has been very interesting and always brings new, and exciting problems to tackle.
The programme is well structured, with an apprentice manager ensuring that my placements around the plant are beneficial for me in my final job role.
My employer sends me plenty of support, with my placement manager always checking that I am happy with the workload alongside the uni work.
The training provider has been great with support. Any time I've had a query with anything related to my uni course, I have received a timely and helpful response.
The work experience and university studies complement each other very well. I gain a deeper understanding of the content of my course from the experience I gain at work, whilst many of the practices used at work I am already aware of due to the education and training on this programme.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in sports and social activities. Football is organised on a weekly basis, where anyone can get involved.
