On a day to day basis I mostly work on large projects for the logistics planning team. I am currently working with autonomous vehicles and working to implement new facilities for various other open topics. This work mostly entails creating concepts, presentations and gathering and managing date for the projects.
I've learnt lots of new skills having worked in different departments around the business. I've learnt how to use BMW specific software, whilst improving skills in widely used software. I have been able to develop existing workplace skills by holding lots of meetings and workshops around the factory.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme. I've been involved in many exciting topics that have allowed me to display skills and knowledge that I have learnt since working at BMW. The apprenticeship has a good support network, with managers being easy to contact if you ever need any help.
The apprenticeship is structured very well and I have a placement plan for the apprenticeship, with contact details of each department to arrange and organise placements. The uni is well structured, with timetables being issued in advance. We also have regular meetings with our apprentice manager to voice any concerns.
I receive plenty of support from the employer. I receive support from both the apprentice team and also from each department that I have been placed with. You also get the opportunity to build up relationships around the whole business, where people are more than willing to support with issues.
The support from the university is okay, but not the best. During lectures it's easy to get help with any questions, as the groups are fairly small. However, closer to deadlines when the lecturers are no longer present it can be more difficult. I would recommend asking questions early.
As a logistics apprentice, the manufacturing degree isn't the most relevant to the work I complete. Lots of material and machining topics aren't the most relevant, but operations management and production theories are more relevant. overall you can take the relevant aspects and apply it to your work.
There are plenty of opportunities to get involved. A benefit of moving around the business on different placements is that you get to meet lost of new people and integrate with different teams. I attend weekly 5 a side football and occasionally socialise with other work colleagues outside of work.
Yes
BMW are a great apprenticeship provider. There are plenty of opportunities for involvement in important projects. It is great to be able to learn skills in the workplace whilst also furthering your own education. It is great to be involved in such a large business from such a young age.
It is important to conduct yourself professionally during the interview. Make sure you research any new innovative topics that BMW are working on, this can help show that you are excited by the future of production. Make sure you have answers to key question prepped for when they are asked.
