The role is very client facing and I interact with client's on a day-to-day basis. The role entails reviewing different companies financial accounts and reviewing each section for any possible misstatement. You get the opportunity to work on a wide range of clients across the country and often get to visit the client at client site.
I have developed soft skills such as communication and project management significantly since starting my role. It has also allowed me to develop skills such as operating Microsoft excel efficiently. Associates have frequent training where we able to develop new and existing skills throughout our apprenticeship both online and in person.
I enjoy the apprenticeship program and the responsibility and knowledge I have been able to build since joining the firm. I have had the opportunity to travel to many places across England and Scotland to visit clients and have started managing my own projects and gained experience of leading projects and teams.
The program is very well structured with studying blocks being booked in your calendar well in advance so you and the firm are able to manage your clients and leave around these. The tuition provider are very good at teaching the program and internal training sessions are also well structured.
I am well supported by my employer and get to work with various different seniors, managers and partners across a wide range of jobs. If there are new areas you want to take on in order to develop your knowledge, you are able to raise this with your managers who will support and guide you on these. You are also allocated an ADR who you can go to with any concerns and they will hold your annual reviews.
You often study with a number of other associates in your year group and the training provider provide your study materials well in advance of your course starting so you can get started on the material at your own pace. They set a good study schedule where they will cover content in classes and provide dates for mock exams to be completed and marked ahead of your actual exams. They are also available via email or call to discuss any questions you have with the content at any time.
After taking part in studies and passing exams in these areas, I am now able to understand and perform my role a lot better than before. The courses are specific to your role and allow you to understand the accounting behind different areas and why things work in the way they do. This theory then helps significantly in the role.
There are charity events held multiple times throughout the year, one of which I recently attended with my team where we helped a homeless charity for the day. We also have a team budget for department socials which are held quite frequently. There are also external events such as BCASS events where you have the opportunity to network with other firms.
