Supervising team of 15+ Sales reps on inbound reservation calls. Ensuring employee engagement, retention, accountability, and performance.
100% learnt a lot of skills over the course of the year that gave me the confidence and support ready to take my step into a supervisor position. Tools surrounding employee engagement and accountability have been especially useful.
The programme overall has been good. The most enjoyable aspect was building up relationships with my fellow supervisor trainees across the business. I least enjoyed completing the assignments as a lot of the time I felt that I was repeating myself in the different ones. However, this was down to the provider, not my employer.
I liked that the programme was not confusing - we had modules delivered by our internal development team, and we had tutor sessions with our learner provider. The simpler the better. I did not feel bombarded by the programme and I liked that at the beginning it got us off to a good start by having a project for us all to get involved with. The project got us stuck in at the deep end straight away. This was useful early on in the programme. I liked the independence the programme gave me to do my own projects and log my own 'off the job' hours.
I felt fully supported by my employee for the duration of the programme. My one suggestion would be to involve the supervisors more in the expectations of what they should be doing to support the employee on the programme. For example, when I first started the programme, my supervisor was not as involved as I am now as a supervisor of my own trainees. Other than this, the support was more than enough.
I received a meeting once a month from the provider. For me personally this was enough as I had not long come out of doing a masters degree so was aware of the academic commitment required for the NVQ. However, I do know that for some they would have liked more involvement and help from the provider. I would have liked a bit more creativity from the provider - I simply had 1x 1 hour teaching session per month, nothing further. A bit more creativity would have led to perhaps more engagement from me with the provider.
The qualification is allowing me to excel currently as a supervisor in my company. As previously mentioned it has given me tools, knowledge and tips that I use often in my role. It's also allowing me to have a critical eye on those who are above me and how I would do things differently in their shoes, as a result of this programme.
I work from home and have access to internal committees, initiatives, and side-projects if I wish. There are also plenty of opportunities to network and gain exposure to other areas of the business.
