A series of placements across multiple engineering teams within the business, providing exposure to a range of roles from technical to integration and management. Day to day involves learning and developing engineering skills within a given placement and contributing to the day to day work and success of the team.
I have developed skills within 3D design, electromagnetics, systems engineering and aerodynamics throughout the apprenticeship. Also other skills such as time, cost and schedule management, people management, customer engagement and relations and supplier engagement. Plus much more!
The programme is excellent for engineers to achieve their degree while developing vital on the job experience, one of the best options out there for young engineers.
The programme is structured well with a series of placements within the company alongside a part time university course which is attended one day a week.
My employer offers a range of benefits as well as a generous salary especially for an apprenticeship. My only complaint is the absence of overtime pay however this becomes available after the scheme.
We are provided support for our diploma by a team of coaches within the company that keep in regular contact and are always available to answer questions. For the most part the staff at the college that provide the degree are also extremely helpful and supportive throughout our studies.
I can regularly apply the theoretical learning from my programme to my placement work.
There are a range of events available, this can vary depending on the placement area.

A great company who look after their employees. The apprenticeship schemes are best in class in my opinion.
Research the roles and schemes available to ensure you choose the right one for you, BAE offer a range of roles and not just within engineering.
