I work alongside an experienced team to create cohesive pieces of work with the goal of developing my skills as an apprentice. My workload includes working with different types of software for transforming data and displaying it in a meaningful way.
I am consistently learning new skills every day of my apprenticeship. Every new team you go into has different ways of working and you have the opportunity to both learn new methods and also transfer your knowledge.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship. Although it can be challenging at times and you have to work hard to keep up with your team, I am always ready to take on whatever they throw at me.
Overall, the programme is quite well structured. We are given set time to study our degree which remains separate from the main working days. Also, throughout my apprenticeship, I will have the opportunity to be apart of up to 8 teams and learn about different areas of the business.
Managers are generally happy to give you as much support as you feel you need however sometimes they will leave you to work out problems for yourself. This often pays off to be the best way to learn.
There are always multiple options to access support through the university. We are provided with a skills coach at the university, a skills coach from BAE and multiple contacts to address specific support options i.e., accessibility, resources, assignment help
Sometimes it can feel as though the content in the degree doesn't always match what you're doing at work however the university likes to focus on developing soft skills and general IT Skills foremost which you will undoubtedly find relevant to working at a company. Most of the skills needed for your job will be done at work.
There is always something going on at BAE. Whether it be the football team, the on-site gym or the lunch and learn sessions, there are options for extra-curricular. My personal favourites are the team socials such as lunches or quiz nights.
Yes
More than anything, it is the friendliest and most relaxed work environment you'll ever experience. Everyone is so eager to help you out and the business is so flexible to your needs. You will never feel out of place at BAE.
Be confident in your interviews and just be the best version of yourself. Even if you feel as if you have little experience, speak about your hobbies with passion and this will come across to your interviewer. Also, know your role! Research and understand what the business is looking for to ensure you get across the right information.
