  • I work in the biology department, my main role involves cell culture, assay development and data analysis. I also engage in team and client meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many different scientific skills including cell culture, assay development, flow cytometry, western blotting and biochemical assays. I have also developed soft skills including teamwork, presenting and communication.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy it, the work I do is dependent on what is available so sometimes it can get repetitive if nothing new is coming in. I have learnt a lot though and there are opportunities to shadow people on things I am interested in.

  • Well structured, the rotations are clear in Harlow as there are only a few departments to choose from.

  • A good amount, we get mentors who are very helpful and my line managers have given me lots of support.

  • I have quarterly catch ups with my university advisor and my lecturers are also always available for questions.

  • It gives me the theoretical context behind what I am doing.

  • I am a STEM ambassador so I go into local schools and also host work experience days for children. I am also a community ambassador so I organise volunteering events for staff.
