To test and prepare equipment and machinery for use in shipbuilding. The role involves 3 days on site and 2 days at college.
I have learnt several new skills since starting my role. For example, my IT skills have greatly improved as well as my confidence when speaking to new individuals. I have also learnt many new practical skills as a result of getting hands on experience in the workplace.
I really enjoy the programme as you get a mix of education as well as hands on experience in the workplace.
The programme is well structured as you gain a PEO in first year, a HNC in the second year and a HND in the 3-4th year. However, the course has been quite heavily affected by college strikes however this is out with the company's control.
We receive a good amount of support from our employer especially when there is college strikes as we go on site on the strike days.
We receive a good amount of support from our training provider however the college strikes have caused major disruption.
The qualification helps us perform better in our role by giving us a basic understanding of how to use certain tools and equipment. However, some of the units in the PEO are more relevant to our role than others.
The are some extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work such at team night outs etc.
