Technical Apprentice. Shadow and carry out day-to-day tasks of various Defence Engineers in different departments. Carry out tasks given to you by your line manager and learn what it takes to become an engineer and learn what you need to know to do the job successfully. Alongside work, learn related subjects at college completing a HND Engineering Systems course.
I currently have a certificate of PEO (Performing Engineering Operations) in relation to the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme. Trained in various job related subjects such as Foreign Object Debris Awareness, RF Safety Awareness, Laser Safety Awareness etc. You are taught how to work as part of a team and also part of the company hierarchy.
I am captivated every day by the work myself and my fellow colleagues do in our working environment. We, as apprentices, are fully accepted as part of the team when it comes to carrying out ground-breaking work and work so an impeccable quality.
Every piece of work I do helps the company is some way or another and managers are always filled with gratitude and praises for a job well done. No apprentice is forgotten or undervalued in Selex Es.
As soon as you start at Selex your coming four years are already set out and predetermined in every aspect. You meet every 12 weeks with your manager to discuss progress in every part of the apprenticeship.
Any problem you encounter or barrier stopping you can always be resolved by our provider.
Every manager and member of personnel is always willing to go out of their way and above and beyond to help you if you need it.
The salary at Selex ES is around average. It used to be an excellent salary but it has remained the same for roughly 7 years although the cost of living has risen, I think the salary for apprentices should be risen to match inflation etc.
The company holds many events and is involved with many big events such as the Edinburgh Science Festival which it is a main sponsor almost every year.
Yes
It is a terrific place and company to work for and the apprentices are treated extremely well. It also gives many opportunities to move up in the industry.
Applying for Selex isn't about getting the right answer every time, it's about how you think about things and your approach, as well as showing that you think outside the box and show great logic.
