  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The purpose of my role is to provide an overarching DDaT Strategic Finance Planning service to inform leadership strategic decision making in delivering IT expenditure cost modelling and business case writing service to the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Had existing financial skills which I have developed through cost modelling. Develop the utilisation of excel as my role is heavily based on data analysis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoy my programme as it is relates to my interest therefore, I'm excited to pursue. I also have a great support system around me who can guide and assist if I do encounter challenges.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) within the Home Office is broken down into several business units. The Chief Operating Office (COO) is at the heart of DDaT. There are 6 main pillars that holds the COO in which one of them is Planning and Analysis and I reside in the Strategic Finance group within this pillar

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have a great support system around me to guide and assist me if I do encounter any obstacles. My line manager is also present in time of need and holds casual drop ins to check on my wellbeing. I have colleagues in my team who understand my new position and are helpful in boosting me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is very supportive in helping me work towards my qualifications. If I need to speak with them directly, I can send send a quick email. On my training dashboard, there are tools and guidance on how to navigate and access further learning. I also have drop ins every six weeks to discuss my current progress and future tasks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Courses and tasks that have been set by my training provider has helped me with administrative protocols when performing my role. Essays and assessments have been placed to challenge my knowledge, skills and behaviours which will then reflect in my work

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I have already attended a couple work conference events to meet the wider organisations. Extra-curricular activities have included going out for lunch, after work social activities and dinners.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a prestigious organisation and part of the government that does its' part to ensure the safety of the UK. Not just digital, data and technology but also different departments within the Home Office can give others an insight into how policies and procedures are delivered.

  • Apply through the main gov careers page, read testimonials on linkedin to gauge an insight on peoples' experiences. And showcase your transferable skills that you can implement and develop here.
