On a day-to-day basis I will prepare personal tax returns for our private clients in the Ipswich office. I typically will draft emails which will be sent on to the client
I have learnt how to draft up more professional emails in order to be more cohesive when communicating to a client. I have learnt a lot about tax since joining.
I enjoy the day-to-day job but the exams are quite intense so trying to manage work life balance can be a struggle.
From the start I have known when my tuition and exam dates fall so I can easily plan how I am going to approach them.
I have received really great support from my employer who helped me when exam software went wrong so I couldn't sit my exam.
There is suitable support as there is a 'student forum' where any questions can be answered. Email addresses are provided at the start of each session to let people know about who to contact for any issues.
I have definitely see a difference in how much I understand since training for some of the exams. This has helped me understand what I am doing when preparing a tax return.
There are social activities to attend regularly which involve either learning more or even just as a fun way to network.
Yes
The exams are really intense but the job itself is really interesting and once the exams are over that really opens up your career.
Understand what to expect and how to utilise what BDO has to offer. Stay on top of everything because exams can catch up to you quickly.
