I work in the infrastructure team so the focus of the role is all about the infrastructure of high in-demand and importance services. This role involves mitigating potential issues, responding to problems effectively and ensuring the hardware/software that we are responsible for are operating correctly.
I have learnt numerous new skills both from the apprenticeship learning provider and my team. From my team I have learnt how to use new applications (reflection as a main example), I have also developed existing skills through learning from peers. Coding and team-work have both been developed greatly through the learning provider.
I enjoy the program as I get a good mix of all working environments, this includes, remote working, working in the office and going to university, Each working environment has pros and cons but this makes the programme more enjoyable. I have a great team that gives me enough time to do my studies as well and I try get involved in all early career events I can go to!
The only thing I can really criticize is the structure of the university course in the first year. I don't know anybody that I have spoke to that thought it was useful learning about business systems and technology in organisations and society. All of what we learnt was irrelevant to our jobs and the information can all be found online.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I receive plenty of support and encouragement from my people leader. I receive plenty of support and attention from my close team. I still receive a good amount of support from my programme support leader and the university support coach.
I receive a good amount of support from the training provider to work towards my qualification. The training provider provides a few services that helps me greatly with submissions. The uni provides me with a library where I can study from and collect sources for my uni submissions.
Right now the only thing that I have learnt from my training provider that has helped me perform better in my role, has been learning the basic principles of coding. However, this could change as I am only a first year apprentice.
There are plenty of networking events that I have been to, as many events are offered for the GTIS team (Global Infrastructure Team). I have also joined the Monday 5 a side team where I play between 5 and end around 6. A football tournament was supposed to happen also but got called short as the pitch condition became unplayable.

Great benefits and working in a huge company presents limitless options on what you can learn and who you can connect to. Also a great option if you don't want to be struggling for money😉
Academic performance does not matter as much as you think! I collected my A level results after already joining here for proof! Focus on what you do outside of education such as work experience and hobbies or interests as this is the only way you will make yourself unique and stand out. As a side note - Rejected applications should not put you off either, there is a reason for everything, I applied for 9 roles to Barclays and only got 1!
