My role is in Public Relations and I have a focus on mobile and digital appliances in Samsung. My role involves duties everyday such as admin, sending out surveys, tracking media, journalists, facilitating the smooth running of events etc.
I have learnt new skills of communication and developing media relations. I have also developed my presentation skills by hosting the webinar to other subsidiaries of Samsung in each European country. I have also learned more about event management, where I have never tried this in the past.
I really enjoy my programme in conjunction to my studies. My work feeds into my uni work and vice versa, which makes my development really fulfilling, especially when I learned about Public Relations in uni and then the next day I understood why my team did certain things. I love still having the academic part to my life too.
The programme is very well structured. I knew how everyone would be organised as this was outlined in my contract. My manager is incredibly helpful, and she is always there to clarify and answer questions. She allowed me to extend my 9 month rotation to a full year so I could have more time to settle in as a first year apprentice.
I receive loads of support from my employer. I have a dedicated manager form the apprenticeship programme at my job, and even a wider Emerging Talent team. Samsung also partners with an out of work employee support programme, which I could use if I needed. My emerging talent manager is very flexible and understanding; she allowed my colleague who is a degree apprentice switch to another training provider as she was unhappy with her previous one.
I get a lot of support. There are many ways to apply foe extra support, and my provider offers extenuating circumstances for assignments, so I can get more time to complete them if something interrupts my study. My apprenticeship manager is also in close contact with my tutors and programme leader at university, so there is very god communication.
It definitely helps me perform better as I am directly learning the theory behind my work, especially public relations. At university, we covered the different tactics that Public Relations can include, and found that most of them were the focus in my role. This included building media relations. I quickly learned the reasoning behind my job and why my colleagues tend to meet journalists and media representatives often, to improve Samsung's brand image.
There are many groups here, such as Women at Samsung, The Black Community, as well as Male Allies and Muslims at Samsung. My company is very inclusive of al backgrounds and cultures, which I must say reflects British values of acceptance as well. I truly believe nobody feels excluded here at Samsung.
Yes
Definitely, and I have already recommended Samsung. The Emerging Talent team in particular are very understanding and supportive, and try their best to make us enjoy our programmes to the fullest. Also, Samsung itself is so inclusive of all people, and one highlight that I really enjoy is the fact that the office has a prayer room, which allows me to complete my mandatory prayers as a Muslim.
Definitely complete work experience and volunteering related to the career you would like to pursue. Also, ensure to show experience that aligns in particular to Samsung values as you will be assessed on this. I know this sounds cliche, but truly be yourself, employers can very easily see if you are pretending to be somebody you are not, and Samsung welcomes your true self.
