Managing sub-contractors on site and ensuring works are being completed in a timely manner and with a high standard of health & safety. I review the programme to compare the planned progress to the actual progress on site. I manage blockers and make ready needs to ensure that works can be completed and if not why and what needs to be done to do so. I hold DAB's on an afternoon and when required site inductions for new operatives. I sit in pre-start meetings, chair H&S meetings and progress meetings with sub-contractors.
Every day is an opportunity to learn something new or develop on an existing skill. Every project I have worked on has taught me something as each job is different, you work with different contractors and have different aspects of construction within it. By working with different trades and different companies you get the ability to learn more in depth detail about their line of work as they all explain things differently. Once you have a basic grasp of something you are then able to ask more detailed questions to get a better understanding.
I enjoy the fact I am able to work full time whilst studying one day a week. They make the workload manageable and always ensure I have the support I need to complete what is necessary. I enjoy that every day is different and I am able to get out and about daily. Working with new teams and new contractors keeping the job interesting and opportunities to learn never ending.
From the beginning it has been well organised with a clear programme of how to complete the apprenticeship. Mace provide a training schedule at the start of each year clearly setting out the training to be completed the dates and times to ensure that everyone has the availability. It is the same with the University, you are allocated your day a week and they support you through your time there.
Mace have been fantastic since the moment I started 4 years ago. The Emerging Talent Team have been an incredible support network throughout. They are extremely dedicated to ensuring that each apprentice is looked after and give time to check in over the course of the apprenticeship. My line managers have always been supportive also making sure I am comfortable within my project team and my workload, assisting with any issues or queries I might have.
London South Bank have a great support network at the university. The lecturers there have always been available either on Teams or in person for help with coursework or questions about lectures. The support team who assist with your EPA have reviews with you and your line manager to monitor progress and find out how you are getting on.
The subjects covered within lectures help me greatly with my role as you gain the theoretical knowledge that you will then witness on a practical level whilst doing your day to day job. For me this is my most effective way of learning because you gain a basic understanding which you can then put in to practise and develop whilst out on site. The training that Mace provides helps to develop knowledge and skills that will help on a professional level, whether that's learning the Mace way or management skills.
There are many opportunities at Mace to get involved in extra-curricular activities. They encourage you to do a days volunteering each year to help out our partner charity St Mungos. This gives a great opportunity to meet people in different sectors whilst also helping a good cause. They also do lots of team building for the apprenticeship team to form bonds with your cohort and organise networking events with clients, consultants and contractors to help further develop your network.

Be honest in your application, write things that will tell them what you are like as a person and what your work ethic is like. They want to know how you want to develop and how they can get you there. They want to know what you can bring to the table and help to make the company even more successful with your attributes.
