Working in store completing a variety of daily and weekly tasks such as serving customers, processing delivery, maintaining store standards and improving my experience and knowledge base.
I am developing my leadership skills by working closely with my duty manager and store manager, learning to use new technology (sumup and App based systems) along with some stock control and warehouse management.
I enjoy getting to interact with a variety of people daily and also learning new things in the retail environment. I enjoy pushing myself to learn about new areas I have little experience with.
The program is very well structured with clear topics each month, broken down into subcategories. My tutor is always available to help should I need it and the workbooks are clear and concise.
My employer is very supportive of both myself and the program, allowing me time each day to spend in pursuit of my apprenticeship work. They always ask what they can do for me in this regard and are happy to make time for me to explore new topics on the store floor.
I receive a lot of support from my tutor Luci, both in feedback and resources. I can always contact her if I am unsure of something or I feel I need additional resources/information. In our meetings, I am given good feedback and encouraged to assess myself too.
It gives me a fuller understanding of what is expected of me in the role, and it does this by highlighting skills I was not aware I needed. It is helping to build my experience, confidence and understanding so I can perform my role daily and improve.
None that I am aware of.
Yes
I find it to be a very enjoyable environment that feels different to other retail environments I have experienced in the past. Working for a charity seems to bring out the best in people and there is a shared sense of a communal goal outside of the store and not just a sales target.
Be honest with yourself about what you want out of the experience, there are a lot of different roles to take on and every day can actually be different depending on where you are located (store/warehouse/pop up store etc) It is more about connecting with the community than pushing sales or reaching a quota.
