  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a software engineer apprentice working remotely at Capgemini in AMS, my role involves a mix of learning and contributing to software development projects. Daily tasks include writing and debugging code, participating in virtual team meetings, and collaborating with senior developers. I work on implementing features and fixing bugs. The remote aspect of my job requires effective communication and self-discipline to manage my tasks efficiently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say I enjoy my program moderately. While I appreciate the opportunity to learn and contribute to real-world projects. Quality / interesting work can be dependent on BU / client you are assigned too. There are good training programs available if you can find time between client and uni work. The flexibility and autonomy of remote work are appealing aspects of the program.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured okay. I do think there is room for improvement. There are clear guidelines and objectives provided by the uni, and I have access to resources for learning and support from them and Capgemini. However, at times, the communication and coordination between teams at Capgemini could be improved, and there may be occasional gaps in guidance or opportunities.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good level of support from my employer. There are resources available for learning, such as online courses. Sometimes I have felt as if not enough time is given to use to work on university work when the workload is high. Also I would like to have access to more information about more opportunities and potential career paths to take post apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive good support from my training provider as I work towards my qualifications. They offer in person learning once a semester which is good opportunity to learn, and they also have some knowledge staff. However some staff are less helpful than others which can sometimes lead to some frustration.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At different stages of the apprenticeship I feel that it has helped or hindered. Some modules are really useful but others feel like a box ticking exercise. Also now I am more experienced and towards the end of the programme, the uni work can take time away from other things which may be more valuable like training, research and certification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • While there are limited extra-curricular activities available at my workplace, there are still some opportunities for engagement. Occasional on campus events, provide a chance to connect with colleagues on a more personal level. Additionally, there are some networking events organized by the company. Also depending on your client, there may be more or less opportunities for extra-curricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes, I would recommend Capgemini to a friend. Despite some of the apprenticeship flaws, the company itself is reputable and can offer valuable opportunities for learning and professional growth if you know how to position yourself correctly. I think the pros of the apprenticeship do outweigh the cons and I would still recommend my friends to apply.
