Sep-June is usual university lectures. In summer, July-Aug, we have a 9-5 work day experience in the PwC offices around the UK (but primarily birmingham) and work with enior team members toward a group project.
The primary skills I have learned so far have all been university based i.e. lecture note taking, theoretical course-work, as we haven't started the summer work experience yet. During the summer term, I plan to learn professional and collaborative skills in a work evironment.
The fact that we spend the majority of the year only focussing on coursework is a huge advantage, as we don't sacrifice the uni experience for the sake of the apprenticeship, which I vastly enjoy.
Very good, the work wwe do in class will feed into the work experience this August, allowing us to test our knowledge practically.
We get 4 tripartite meetings a year (joint with the employer and the uni). This pimarily focusses on my wellbeing and how I am progressing and is a perfect 1-to-1 for me to voice any concerns and get immediate help. I also have a uni tutor I see regularly
During the tripartite meetings, I can ask for specific help from revision tips to asking about the foreseeable future of my path with my employer, all helping me to work towards final qualifications
I have learnt how to code in Java and plan to use this skill this summer in my role with the company
Extra-curriculars are available to us during the summer term, so I haven't taken part as of yet
Yes
At the age of 18, I fully fund my entire university education (through my employer) icluding accomodation (have no debts after 4 year course) and get 16 months work experience by the end of my course which is just as vital in my subject area. There is no down side.
Scour the PwC website, learn about the new equation and more and incorporate this knowledge into your answers when interviewing with the compnay. When in team-tasks during the application stage, be open to everyone's opinions, and be the person who makes sure everyone gets a say. Working together is better than dominating the discussion. Relax during interviews, being calm will make you less likely to slip up and will help you mentally. Good luck!
