  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Produce documents for safe systems of work for example permits to break ground, task briefing sheets and RAMS. Also take accurate diaries reflecting works taking place on site to support commercial team. Ensure site teams are aware of expectations and how to complete tasks. Set out and survey what is required or installed on site.

  • Options to do rotations across the business to get a more complet4e over view of all the cogs which make the project work, not currently started but is a possibility if I wanted to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Really enjoy the programme believe some of the training can be irrelevant to my job role however its better to have more than required than inadequate chance to develop your skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • General understanding of the apprenticeship program and support for certain things are just non-existent from the wider business. However, always receive support from colleagues and team I work with regularly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Majority of the support is provided by colleagues and managers willing to make allowances for additional training and revision around exam periods but generally no support in regards to professional qualification which is made mandatory during an apprenticeship,

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Training provider is poor and lack understanding of an apprentices requirements in comparison to full time students. Teaching by majority of the lecturers is inadequate and increase the work load onto the apprentices and no changes are made when issues are raised, they usually respond with use online materials provided and ignore the actual issue.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Degree increase understanding of certain aspects but its a one size fits all course and while could be beneficial if I move into a different aspect of civil engineering more of it would be relevant, generally the information is irrelevant to job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there is a few options for occasional social events however, not project centred so the majority people don't attend.

  • Yes

  • great opportunities if you're willing to make the most of them


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • If your doing a degree apprenticeship as an easier route its not you'll be in a better position but you'll have to work harder than the usual student .
