Day to day tasks involve going to client sites, interacting with clients and gaining an understanding of the entity you are working with. I perform testing on their financial statements to ensure they give a true picture of the business. There is a lot of responsibility with the job and a chance to meet so many different people.
Every day I am developing a new set of skills. Working with so many different people and clients gives great exposure to business as a whole. In the space of less than a year I have gone from having no knowledge on accounting to testing others' accounts.
Deloitte certainly look after their employees and the opportunities to work with different teams and make friends is vast. The meritocratic culture means that It is easy to develop and progress though there are periods of intensity and difficulty. Employees are expected to meet deadlines.
There are good programmes in place for internal recognition though this could be improved. It depends who you work with- if teams are good with praise and ensuring you are recognised then you do feel valued. If not, then there are times when you feel as if you put more in than you get out.
The programme is fairly new and there is room for improvement, particularly with the training structure. However, there is clear progression and a great support network in place.
We have different tutors provided externally though there is great support network and Deloitte ensures the students receive the best quality tutoring and added extras for extra classes and times with the tutor.
The HR team at Deloitte is great and Deloitte, as a firm, is extremely good at ensuring a work-home balance is established and the employees are happy. I have an appraiser who I meet regularly with and supports me in progression and any personal problems I may have.
Extremely well- based on my experience my salary is very competitive. There is great salary progression in this programme. Deloitte are very good with social costs and daily costs. In addition, travel to client sites is all paid for.
There are various committees and opportunities to volunteer in work time. Sports teams such as football are available. In busy season It can be difficult to fit in time outside of work but during summer months there are plenty of opportunities and company events organised.
Yes
Deloitte are a great company to work for and very supportive. If you want to be given lots of responsibility and progress in a career whilst making friends and being with lots of other young people then its a great place to go.
Make sure you look into the business beforehand and gain an understanding as to what Deloitte do. Read around the company and get a high level understanding of which businesses are doing well/badly. But make sure you are also a well rounded person- other interests and hobbies are great. Deloitte want people who can work well in teams and can be put in front of a client and get a good working relationship established!
