manufacturing apprentice, I work in an area where we manufacture various different cable forms and test fixtures, all of which are normally one off jobs
I have learnt a lot of new wiring skills and developed skills that I already have, in this department I have achieved my IPC soldering qualification and also passed various other courses like foreign object damage and ESD
I enjoyed my program as I enjoy working as part of a team, all of my colleagues who started at the same time as me and others have always looked out for each other which is good, also I enjoy how challenging some of the work can be so that it can test me everytime I start a job
I feel valued by SELEX as they always show their appreciation for the extra work that apprentices do, they are also always promoting work that has been done and events that are coming up in the apprentice community
Our program is very well structured, from when you first start you know where you are going and who you are reporting to up until it is time for you to go into your final placement.
we receive a lot of support from our training provider, every department you go into are always very helpful and always take time out to help you.
we have a review every 12 weeks with the apprentice manager who also takes time out to help and go over anything that you are unsure of, and also can ask your assessor who is going through your SVQ with you any queries that you may have
I feel as if my salary packet doesn't meet my costs that well, as I have to travel a bit into work each day I feel as if most of my salary is put into travel, leaving just enough to get through the rest of the month
there are ample opportunities outside of work, you can go into schools and events where you can promote the apprenticeship there is also always stalls at the Edinburgh international science festival
Yes
I feel it is a great company to work for with many benefits, it is also a well thought of apprenticeship scheme by various other companies.
if I was to give anyone advice I would tell them to just be themselves when it comes to the assessment centres, try and get involved as much as you can.
