I work shadowed multiple service lines including tax, audit, accounts business advisory etc. The week of work experience was well structured and consisted of a mixture of online meetings and in person work shadowing. There were also workshops on diversity and inclusion and employability sessions which were very useful.
I learnt about transferable skills which are useful in financial services. Additionally, we completed tasks which uncovered what our key strengths and weaknesses are. Communication was important throughout the work shadowing, whether that was interacting on teams meetings or with colleagues in the office
I really enjoyed my work experience, it was an invaluable experience to learn which service line attracts me most in financial services and inspired me to pursue a career in accounting. Everyone was really welcoming and easy to ask for help or advice which definitely made the experience enjoyable.
The work shadowing week was extremely well organised, we were sent a timetable prior to experience which was helpful to know what activities were planned for each day.
I learnt so much about the culture of RSM through presentation sessions with employees both online and through informal chats. I learnt how much the company supports their employees and how much trust and responsibility RSM has in employees right from the start.
This work experience was extremely useful for me in highlighting my interest in the audit service line. However, it was great to hear it is possible to transfer within the firm if you decide later you have an interest in another area.
Yes, I was paid.
There was great opportunities to network with employees in the office and gain an insight into their experience working in the firm and for them to give me insights into the company. Additionally, during our online sessions there was time for Q&A with employees and great opportunities to talk with other students who were completing the work experience.
Yes
one of the main things that stuck out to me was the strong company culture which RSM has, I think its great it promotes such an inclusive environment and places high value on its core values. Additionally, they offer great career development opportunities and a clear career path which is very attractive. Their commitment to diversity and inclusion is another area which is appealing
Research the company and area which you are applying to, try to relax during the interview process and do your best!
