  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible of a small team of managers and supervisors that deliver Engineering projects for our client South East Water, making sure the projects are completed on time, to their specification and on budget, whilst making sure our teams are safe on site.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about Emotional Intelligence, which is a skill I was not aware of. From my studies and further reading I am applying the knowledge of this skill and management practices to my day to day role to support my staff.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying the learning programme that I am undertaking. There are new practices that I have not known about, which I am now applying to my role as an Operations Manager, in addition to knowledge and skills that I have known about but have learnt other ways to apply these skills to improve myself as a manager

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well thought about, with the topics discussed, how it is presented and the interaction as a group. The interim and full reviews that are undertaken between myself and my lecturer allows for me to discuss if I am experiencing any problems and what topics I will need to concentrate on the deliver the programme on the timeline set.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My Line Manager and the business supports my learning requirements, allowing me to have the time should I need it to concentrate on my studies

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have plenty of support from the training provider, I know that I can email my lecturer should I have any concerns with my learning experience. I can review my progress on Maytas platform as to where I am and where I need to be. We have regular review meetings every 8 weeks to make sure that I am on programme with completing the training

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Topics such as managing people, communication and building relationships have provided me with new understandings as well as improving on what I already know to assist me in managing and supporting my team, whilst developing my own abilities as a manager.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are networking events that are ongoing within the business such as the Clancy awards that allows me to meet other members of the business that work in different parts of the country carrying out similar roles to what I am currently in
